Cable operators halt broadcast of foreign TV channels

In accordance with an order of the government, programs featuring advertisements on foreign channels will not be aired within Bangladesh.

But, they say it's not possible to stop only the ads from programs that are transmitted on channels from other countries. So, cable providers have decided to cease broadcasting on foreign channels.

SM Anwar Parvez, founding president of the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh (COAB) He said that foreign broadcasters who show programmes that include advertisements in accordance with the guidelines of the government cannot be aired in Bangladesh and have therefore been unable to show it.

He also said that If the government issues new directives or instructions in the near future, they will follow up in line with the new instructions or steps.

The notice sent to the operators stated that in accordance with the guidelines from the Ministry of Information of the government, from the 30th of September, 2021 it will be inaccessible to air any foreign channel that has advertisements.

In accordance with the instructions of the government that operators are no longer broadcasting on foreign channels that feature advertisements.
